Access to the path C:\AJAX_Documentation\web.config is denied.

Greetings,

I download the ajax documentation and i extract it to c:\AJAX_Documentation.

I make a virtual directory called AJAX_Documentation but when i run it i get the following error:

Server Error in '/AJAX_Documentation' Application.
Configuration Error
Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Source File: C:\AJAX_Documentation\web.config Line: 0

but i try to move the folder AJAX_Documentation to c:\inetpub\wwwroot so it works fine

so what is the problem,if i extract it to C drive?

i make research on the internet and they tell me that this problem may be because you install .net framework 2.0 afetr IIS which is my case so i uninstall .net framework and IIS and then i install first .net framework and then IIS but i still face the same problem.

so i try another thing to run aspnet_regiis - i so i still face the same problem

so i try another thing : aspnet_regiis -ga "nt authority\Network service" so i still face the same problem

your help is highly appreciated

best regards

That mean Asp.Net user hasn't got right file permission to read your config file.

Try to reconfiguration your file permissions of the C:\AJAX_Documentation\ folder.

thak you for the s

thank you for the support

i try what do you suggest what i already do it but i still face the same problem!!!

so what i do i go the security tab of the ajax_documentation folder and i add the aspnet user and i give him all the permission but i still face the same problem!!

so any other suggestion for this problem?

your help is highly appreciated

I had the same problem.

I solved it installing the website in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\AJAX_Documentation

Regards,

Access to Path denied message appears on install

Hi,

While trying to install Atlas, I get the following message - Access to the path 'C:/Program Files/Common Files/Pumatech Shared/Transaction Manager/ComponentData/TraceLogs' is denied. What do I need to do here?

Thanks,
James

Hello. I do not have much to add other than I am experiencing thesame problem. I downloaded the installer today (4 April2006). My system is Windows XP Professional, SP 2 and I havelocal admin rights to the machine.
It seems like your Blackberry synchronization application is conflicting with the install. I have no idea why but I suspect that there is something really wrong with your system. Atlas itself knows nothing of this Pumatech folder.

I am not sure why the setup will reference the Pumatech Shared folder since it should be not be related. Can you check a couple things:

- Since it was access denial error, can you check if your current user account has the access permission to the folders through the security tab of the Properties dialog of the folders?

- From some internet search results, it looks Pumatech Shared folder might be created by Pumatech Intellisync, Blackberry Desktop Software or some PDA desktop sync software. I am just curious that if you have any of such software installed on your machine. If possible, would you be able to try Atlas setup on a machine that does not have any of such software installed?

Thanks,
Frank

I do have Blackberry Desktop sync software amd the exe I use to sync upis not loaded in memory. In other words it only syncs when I tellit to, manually. I also checked Windows Services and the Sys TrayRegistry settings (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run)and I do not see any suspicious exe/processes either.

Oddly enough, despite having local admin rights, when I try to look atthe Pumatech Shared folder's settings it gives me a permission deniederror!

I am really at a loss, too why the the Atlas setup would want to reference the Pumatech Shared folder. A
clean reboot and then reinstall does not help either.

At this time I do not have another machine to test the install. The only consollation I have is that I am not the only one with thisvery strange problem.

Thanks guys for the replies. Any more ideas?
One more thing, if I unckeck "Install Atlas Visual Studio ProjectTemplate" from the setup. It completes successfully (other thaninstalling the template, of course).

Originally, I thought the problem may be due to having an apostrophe inmy name (o'reilly), since the templates directory is located underc:\documents & settings\o'reilly\visual studio 2005\......, etc.

Today, I copied the contents of C:\Documents andSettings\o'reilly\My Documents\Visual Studio 2005 and pasted it toC:\Dev. I then went through the Visual Studio 2005 optionsettings and changed every pertinent setting I could to point toc:\dev\Visual Studio 2005\...

So at this point I am really grasping at straws as to why this installer is not working properly.
"I am not sure why the setup will reference the Pumatech Shared folder since it should be not be related. "

Not only does theWindows Installer Component(msiexec.exe) references this folder, it accesses alot of other foldersthat are unrleated to access. This is alarmingly so when viewingthe installer activity using sysinternal's FileMon utility.

I also had the same problem. I uninstalled the Blackberry Desktop app with Add Remove programs and this did not remove the \Pumatech Shared\ directory. So I uninstalled the Yahoo calendar sync desktop app I installed that this did not remove it. I went into the \Pumatech Shared\ directory and ran all the uninstall.exe's within the subdirectories. When I attempted to delete the directory, I hit a permission problem. I tried again to access the \Trace Logs\ directory and got a message that I could not change permissions, but could take control of the directory. So I did. I had right clicked, clicked Properties and clicked Security tab and change the owner from null to me. Then I gave myself full control of the \Trace Logs\ directory. I had repeat this process for the two xml files contained with in. Once I did that, I could delete the entire Pumatech directory. With this in the trash, I was able to install Atlas including the template. I haven't seen that I have caused any more problems by doing such a brute force uninstall, but I just finished doing this a few minutes ago. My system hasn't crashed yet and I don't forsee that this would cause any problems, so I'm feeling pretty confident. I'll see what happens next. :) Hope this helps. Dean

The setup is searching through C:\Program Files\Common Files to look for VSContentInstaller.exe to launch the VSI installation. There might be some problem when it cannot access some folder under the directory. I will investigate further and see exactly what happens under this condition. Please stay tuned.

Thanks for providing all the info, it has been really helpful to narrow down the area of the problem.
Frank

By the way, as mentioned by "Life of Riley" above, a workaround is that you uncheck "Install Atlas Visual Studio Project Template" during setup. Once setup is done, you go to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ASP.NET\Atlas\v2.0.50727" and open ASPNETAtlas.vsi. This should install the Atlas template properly.

Just an update on this, the above issue of access denied to an unrelated folder has been fixed and the next release of Atlas will not have the same issue.

Thanks,
Frank

Access is denied

When I try to install the ASP.Net Ajax download I get an access is denied message. I have IE7, ASP.NET 2.0, Visual Studio Express and SQL Server installed. I also have Net Beans 5.5. Could one of these programs have some sort of conflict with t Ajax framework.

Have you checked all the event logs? You might find a log message that will give you some more information.

Did you get a message telling you that it cannot find the AJAXDownloader(or whatever it is called)[1].msi when in fact it is called AJAXDownloader(or whatever it is called) without the [1]? This happened to me and I just changed the name of the .msi file on my desktop (or wherever you downloaded it to) to AJAXDownloader(or whatever it is called)[1].msi. This worked for me anyway.

Event logs are not very helpful. I found the following warning which does not help much.

Product:Windows Operating SystemID:1015Source:EvntAgntVersion:5.2Symbolic Name:SNMPELEA_NO_REGISTRY_TRACE_LEVEL_PARAMETERMessage:TraceLevel parameter not located in registry; Default trace level used is %1.

The exact message I got is:

C:\Documents and settings\...\Content.IE5\56UJ3Mk4\ASPAJXExtSetup[1].msi

Acces is denied.

Does this provide any clues.

Try this:

Instead of running the .msi file, save it to desktop.

Change the actual name of the icon on the desktop from ASPAJXExtSetup.msi to ASPAJXExtSetup[1].msi.

Double click it to run and install it.

This worked for me. Let me know if it was any help.

The exact message I got is:

C:\Documents and settings\...\Content.IE5\56UJ3Mk4\ASPAJXExtSetup[1].msi

Acces is denied.

I tried saving the download in my documents and then renaming the file without the [1] but this did not help. Did you save the file in another location maybe in the root directory.

Just to add to the above post, if the acccess is denied message appears again then just browse to the renamed ASPAJXExtSetup[1].msi file on the desktop.

Saving the file to the desktop did not have any effect.

What exactly happens when you rename the file to ...[1].msi and double click on it?

I get the same Access is denied message.

The latest clue I have about my problem came from trying to install the Vista advisor. I got the same Access denied message.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\3LUJIBF4\Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor[1].msi

Access is denied.

I installed both programs in my office computer without any problems. I don't know if this problem has to do with the fact that I downloaded these two programs to two different computers connected through a network or the problem has to do with the computer's regisistry.

when you run a .exe installer it unpacks the .msi in a tempory directory, this is the directory you dont have permission to write to, hence the error. Turning off UAC or right clicking the .exe file and selecting run as administrator will solve the problem.

Guessing Installing at the office worked because your IT administrator turned off UAC on the pcs to slow the wave of support calls

Access is denied

Hi..

I have aspx page, and this page contain iframe. In the Iframe i try to open aspx page that contain ajax controls like animation, progress bar... the problem that i have is: when i try to move my cursor on the image that open the animation box, i get the following error: Access is denied.

When the progress bar is starting to work i get the same error..so, in each control that i am using i get this error..and i don't know how to solve this..

thank you...

The "Access Denied" error in any browser usually means that a script in one window or frame is trying to access another window or frame whose document's domain is different from the document containing the script. What can seem odd about this is that you get this error in IE for Windows frequently when a script in one window generates a new window (withwindow.open()), and content for that other window is dynamically created from the same script doing the opening. Thefocus() method also triggers the error.

The error can also occur if scripts try to access objects, properties, or methods that have been locked down by Microsoft's security platoon. For instance, thedocument.styleSheets.rules property used to be accessible in IE 5 and IE 5.5, but is not in IE 6.

For the new window problem, there is a bit of history associated with the problem and workarounds. For example, the problem occurs frequently when the scripts are being run from the local hard disk. You get a clue about the situation in the titlebar of the new window: It forces anabout:blank URL to the new window, which is a protocol:domain that differs from wherever your main window's script comes from. If, however, you put the same main window document on a server, and access it via http:, the problem goes away.

There is a workaround for the local-only problem: In the first parameter of thewindow.open() method call, load a real document (even if it is a content-free HTML document) into the sub-window before usingdocument.write() to generate content for the subwindow. The loading action 'legitimizes' the window as coming from the same domain as your main window's document.

(This solution does not affect scripts that load a page from a secure server into a separate window or frame. Anhttp: protocol in one window andhttps: in the other--even if from the same server.domain--yield a security mismatch and "Access Denied." Setting thedocument.domain properties of both pages may solve the problem (but I am unable to test it for sure).)

For other situations (such as thedocument.styleSheets.cssRules problem, there are no workarounds, so you'll have to find another way around your task.

One more source of this error in IE occurs if you assign a too-long search string to a URL or a form (using the GET method) has lots of elements and data. The HTTP GET method has a built-in limit of approximately 512 characters. If you run into the problem, change the method to POST, which has no data length limit. But POST won't reflect the search string in the URL of the replacement page (in case you're expecting to parse that data as a way to convey data from one page to the next).

Access Denied javascript error - Urgent help required

Hi there,

I'm tearing my hair out here, i'm using the ModalPopupExtender and it's returning a javascript error "Access is denied"

It works perfectly on my machine locally but when uploaded to our production server it returns this error.

I know what you're thinking, it's cross-domain issue or iframes. However we don't use either!!!! I've searching the internet high and low to no avail.

I've even tried using scriptpath instead and that doesn't work either, get js error 'ajaxcontrolkit is undefined'

I'm going to have to scrap a lot of work if i can't get a solution for this.

Please, please help!

Thanks in advance

Rob

Have you identified the offending line with a debugger?

Hi David, It's a javascript error, simply one that is displayed by Internet Explorer 7, Line No. 5960Char: 49Error: Access is deniedCode: 0URL: xxxAny ideas?

A debugger like Firebug (for Firefox) will let you set a breakpoint there and see what the problem might be.

Access Denied error when attempting to consume web service

I am attempting to call a web service from my extender control, but when I do so, I get an error message - access denied (there are no other details). After some research, I think this has something to do with cross site scripting - since the web service exists elsewhere (it is a public webservice). How does one access an external webservice?

Here is the code that is throwing the error:

Sys.Net.WebServiceProxy.invoke(this.get_servicePath(),this.get_serviceMethod(),false, params,

Function.createDelegate(this,this._onMethodComplete),

Function.createDelegate(this,this._onMethodFailed));

ServicePath="http://www.webservicex.net/uszip.asmx"ServiceMethod="GetInfoByZIP"

Try to disable the javascript debugging. See what happens then

Configure AJAX properly

Access denied bug

Hi. Just letting yuo know that this code on the line 5959 of one of MS AJAX files, in getLocation func, yield "Access denied" bugs in cross-domain scenarios. Or http with https iframe scenario in our case. top is obviously inaccessible...

var w = element.ownerDocument.parentWindow;
var offsetL = w.screenLeft - top.screenLeft - top.document.documentElement.scrollLeft + 2;
var offsetT = w.screenTop - top.screenTop - top.document.documentElement.scrollTop + 2;

See this: http://weblogs.asp.net/bleroy/archive/2007/01/31/how-to-work-around-the-quot-access-denied-quot-cross-domain-frame-issue-in-asp-net-ajax-1-0.aspx

Access Denied

Not sure if this is the correct forum so sorry if it needs moving...

I have a written a plugin for a client that they have embedded in their website using a simple IFRAME

Everything was been working fine until I added a really simple Ajax control.

The page display fine and the ajax actions and other controls all work as expected.

But if a user clicks on any link on the page i get an 'Access Is Denied' error.

When I debug I am directed to the ScriptResource.axd and the line 5959:

'var offsetL = w.screenLeft - top.screenLeft - top.document.documentElement.scrollLeft + 2;'

I am aware of the cross domain issue and have added:

'Response.AddHeader("P3P","CP=""CAO PSA OUR""")'

..to my code but I cannot get around this error.

I can continue by choosing not to debug but I want fix the problem.

Anyone got any ideas what the problem is?

Thanks for any help

Geoff

I am having the same problem, and cannot figure out how to correct. I have researched it on and off for weeks. Any help on this topic on this issue would be great.

Whether error that you are facing in IE or Mozilla ?

Because some issues will be there with Mozilla....

Sometimes, You have to add your website in Trusted Site zone...

Access credentials are not being loaded when use Atlas functionality

Facing this bizzare issue of access denied when use Atlas funcationality. I am using UpdatePanel in two .ascx controls that searches a list(list is on one .ascx and search button is on the 2nd .ascx).Everything works fine(i.e performs search in an Atlas way - no whol page refresh) but it generates an error on the browser that says..

A run time error has occured..

Line: 86762781

Error: Object expected.

When i see the log file at c:/windows/system32/Logfiles/ W3SVC1.. i see

That request is using 127.0.0.1 as the credentials instead of my own credential string.

This is the case if i use Atlas UpdatePanel otherwise it works fine.

Any clue in this regards, do i have to do something in terms of security to get it working?

Copied this Microsoft.Web.Atlas.dll over to my machine and issue went away.
